The monitoring properties vocabulary is, where possible, a direct copy of the EnvThes vocabulary using both the concept definitions and simplified SKOS structure. The simplified SKOS structure comes from only wishing to support the Complex Properties Model (Leadbetter and Vodden, 2016), and within that structure the concepts have also been pruned to contain only those needed for the current monitoring system deployment. While many concepts have been removed, there was a need to also add where the EnvThes did not have the necessary concepts already defined. As the use of the CPM will evolve over time, as may our understanding and representation of the concepts, having a separate vocabulary to focus this use seemed appropriate to enable the ability to easily edit structure and concepts over the initial exploratory-use period. International Journal of Digital Earth, 9(3), pp.300-324.
